The first weekend is over and with 400 events now listed in the calendars, Beer Week has entered full tilt boogie. Here are our favorite 2 events for Monday.
Take Down the Bears with Bear Republic
Monday, November 9, 5-11:30pm
Come out to O’Brien’s for 15 Bear Republic taps and to (mebbe) take down the Bears football team. If you’ve only drank Racer 5 or Red Rocket then you DON’T know Bear Republic. As promised from O’Brien’s:”Look for lots of hops, barrel aged and sour ales from these great brewers and friends of the pubs. Brandy, Bourbon and Sherry barrels make an appearance on the barrel aged side. Tartare, Bubba and Tartare Rouge add some sour flair and look for a Smoked Common Ale, Imperial Stout, Belgians, IPAs (Racers 5 and X, along with Hop Shovel and Pace Car session IPA) and other great styles to pair with the Chargers MNF game!”
Food specials for the evening include Ahi Salad, Seafood Gumbo, Beer Battered Fish Tacos, Fish and Chips, Fish Tortas. I hail from both cities playing football this evening so I’ll be a Two-Face cheerleader turning my head one way or the other to comment on a play.
Brews, Views, and Chews
Monday, November 9, 6-9pm
2150 Harbor Island Drive, San Diego, CA, 92101
If you’ve ever walked on Harbor Island, the “views” part of this event is self-explanatory. At the tip of the island is an actual functioning lighthouse, known as Beacon #9 on any USCG Nautical Map, converted into a restaurant in 1971. The event of the evening is a walk-around festival of food and beer pairings:
Bali Hai Restaurant-The Lost Abbey
Tom Ham’s Lighthouse-Belching Beaver
Carnitas Snack Shack-New English Brewing
The Little Lion Café-Ballast Point Brewing
Soda and Swine-Ironfire Brewing Company
Hammond’s Ice Cream-Acoustic Ales
Live music and live art and the football game will be playing in the California Room for those who need their MNF. $5 of every ticket sold will be donated to San Diego Food Bank’s Backpack Program.
